President Cyril Ramaphosa has requested the postponement of his speech to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) scheduled for Thursday afternoon, following the release of the Section 89 panel’s report.
The Presidency released a statement confirming the request for a postponement.
Ramaphosa had to answer questions ranging from the government’s plans to deal with blackouts to cushioning the poor against the rising cost of living.
The presidency says the process of the independent Section 89 commission was unprecedented in South Africa’s constitutional democracy.
It said the panel’s recommendations and their implications for the country’s stability require the president to take time to carefully consider the report’s content and follow-up.
Parliament confirmed receipt of the request for postponement.

Meanwhile, the presidency says Ramaphosa will soon make an announcement in response to the report of the independent panel of experts on Section 89.
Retired Chief Justice Sandile Ngcoba handed over the report to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nkakula, on Wednesday.
The report found that he may have seriously violated Section 34 (1) of the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Act.
The law obliges any authority to report corrupt transactions if they know or may suspect that such a crime has been committed.
The Commission found that information placed before it indicated that the President may have committed a serious breach of Section 96 (2) (a) of the Constitution, which states that members of the Cabinet and Deputy Ministers cannot perform other paid duties work.
