International Relations Minister Naledi Pandor admitted that while Nigeria provides trade opportunities for South Africa, there are some challenges.

The Republic of South Africa and Nigeria state that they are satisfied with the progress made in strengthening bilateral ties.

Both countries are strategic partners and have a number of agreements on expanding trade and other areas of cooperation.

Pandor explains the problems: “I have noticed that some South African companies recently have obviously found it difficult to operate in Nigeria. Some of the challenges reported include regulatory challenges and non-tariff barriers. As a result, the number of South African companies operating in Nigeria has reduced significantly from 350 to the current 120 companies”.
