MyCiti bus catches fire as Cape Town taxi operator goes on strike – SABC News

A MyCiti bus was set on fire in Khayelitsha on the Cape Flats as the South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) began a two-day strike on Monday morning in an attempt to force the provincial government to reinstate the Blue Dot taxi program.

At the end of the month, the project will be stopped due to lack of funding.

Meanwhile, the Cape Town Traffic Service says it is dealing with a number of incidents of civil unrest in the Khayelitsha area.

Traffic spokesman Kevin Jacobs says: “Cape Town traffic officers are responding to incidents of civil disturbance in the Khayelitsha area. The affected routes include Pama Roads, Mongezi Roads, Steve Biko Roads and Jafta K Masemola Roads. Motorists are advised to be careful.”

Santak’s two-day stay in the Western Cape will continue on Monday and Tuesday:
