Members of the police K9 unit were at the Marks Building where the Section 194 Committee was conducting an investigation into the fitness of suspended public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane.
The unit’s dog sniffed the scene ahead of the investigation, which continues on Wednesday. It is not yet clear what caused the presence of the block.
The sniffer dog, named Alvin, was seen this morning just after 8am in room M46, accompanied by three police officers from the K9 unit.
Alvin swept the committee premises and other areas close to the M46 before the inquiry began.
The sweep of the grounds came a day after the Section 194 Committee rejected Mkhwebane’s bid to remove and replace two evidence leaders, Nazrin Bawa and Nkumisa Mayosi.
Mkhwebane is expected to call his witnesses.
