Northern Cape moving fast with green energy: Prime Minister Saul – SABC News

Northern Cape Premier Zamani Saul says his province is phasing in green and renewable energy.

Earlier this week, Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Patricia de Lille said nine green hydrogen projects would be given priority status this week. This means that projects will be implemented at an accelerated pace.

Speaking on the sidelines of the inaugural Green Hydrogen Summit in Cape Town, Saul said the introduction of renewable energy would bode well for job creation in the province.

He says the province has invested billions of rand in green energy.

“We are the first province in the country to adopt a provincial hydrogen strategy. About R200 billion has been invested in renewable energy in the Republic of South Africa, of which 64% is in the Northern Cape. We plan to follow the same trend when it comes to green hydrogen. The nine projects that were announced yesterday, four of them from the Northern Cape, will certainly change the socio-economic landscape there,” Saul explains.
