JOHANNESBURG – Six people have died in a car accident on the N4 toll road between Middelburg and Emalahleni.

The driver of the SUV is understood to have lost control, veered off the road and off a bridge before landing on a nearby road on Sunday morning.

Officials say the driver and all five passengers — five men and one woman — died at the scene.

Police are investigating the crash, but officials suspect fatigue may have been a factor.

Mpumalanga Public Safety MEC Vusi Shongwe, who sent his condolences to the families of the victims, urged drivers to be more vigilant on the roads.

“We again appeal to drivers to be more careful on the road. Those who drive long distances are advised to take a break if they are tired, because fatigue is dangerous,” says the message of the IEC.
