SACP mobilizes community after Janusz Walus parole verdict – SABC News

The South African Communist Party (SACP) has pledged to mobilize society in its drive to ensure that the law works in the interests of the disadvantaged.

The party reacted to the decision of the Constitutional Court, which declared the decision of the Minister of Justice Ronald Lamola to deny parole to Janusz Walus, convicted of murder, irrational and unconstitutional.

The Supreme Court decided to release the Polish immigrant on parole within 10 days.

Walus shot the late SACP General Secretary Chris Honey in 1993.

SACP General Secretary Solly Mapailo says: “There is nothing we can do except mass mobilization so that we rebuild our legal framework to represent the interests of the people and not to protect murderers and criminals whose sole mandate is to wreak havoc on society. I think it’s disappointing – this sentence. We will have to go back to the drawing board to see how to mobilize society for justice for people, not criminals. We believe that there was indeed an injustice, a very serious injustice against our people, in the court today.

Chris Honey’s wife

Hani’s widow lashed out at the Constitutional Court for the ruling on the release of her husband’s killer, Janusz Walus.

Limpho Hani criticized Chief Justice Raymond Zond for failing to take her family into account in the unanimous decision.

“The end of this country. In this country, a foreign white man can come to South Africa and kill my husband. I don’t know if you heard, but Zonda never mentioned my family, myself, my children, trauma and suffering. He couldn’t be bothered, all of them, and Valus lost all the cases. These, because in South Africa, they are gods (sic) and what they say goes. I wish them all the best. Do you know about karma? Watch the space, everyone. Watch the feed, I give them two years.’
