Five municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal will hold by-elections on Wednesday.
Three of the five wards to be contested in the province have become vacant following the councillor’s death.
Ward 10 in the South Coast Municipality of Umdoni has become vacant following the resignation of a councillor. Previously, it was held by the Democratic Alliance (DA).
Ward 11 in UMsinga Municipality and Ward 13 in AbaKulusi, both previously represented by the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), fell vacant following the death of a councillor.
These by-elections will be a test of the recently announced working partnership proposed by the IFP and the DA in the province.
The parties announced that they would join forces against the African National Congress.
Meanwhile, a total of nine by-elections will be held in the country in Eastern Cape, Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.
