JOHANNESBURG – Johannesburg Mayor Mpho Falatse has survived another attempt to remove her from office, but the African National Congress (ANC) has made its intentions clear that it will soon move another vote of no confidence against her.
Falatse survived another attempt to strip her of her mayoral post after the African Independent Congress and the African Movement for Transformation withdrew their petitions on Thursday.
Over the past two months, she has been the subject of several motions brought by various parties in the council.
But she is not happy that she has become an easy target of these petitions.
“I am certainly concerned about the frequency of these motions and there is a six month rule in Ekurhuleni and there is a six month rule in Parliament. The City of Johannesburg has no limit on the number of no-confidence motions that can be filed, and this is problematic. This does not speak well for stability.”
Meanwhile, the ANC has said it will file another motion against the mayor after negotiations with the Economic Freedom Fighters conclude.

Falatze, meanwhile, said she will continue to address the city’s financial crisis and fulfill her mandate to deliver services.
