Six people died in a car crash on the N4 highway in Mpumalanga

Six people died on the N4 toll road between Middelburg and Emalahleni on Sunday morning.

Mpumalanga Public Safety, Security and Communications Department Vusi Shongwe said the accident occurred when the SUV went out of control, left the bridge and landed on the nearby R35 road.

All six passengers, five men and one woman, died on impact.

Shongwe appealed to drivers to use the road more carefully.

“We are deeply saddened by this development and again appeal to drivers to be more vigilant on the roads.

“Those traveling long distances are advised to take a break when they feel tired, as fatigue is dangerous,” he said.

“The cause of the tragic incident is currently under investigation… it is suspected that driver fatigue may have been a factor,” added department spokesperson Moeti Mmusi.

The MEC sent its condolences to the families of the victims.
