Ramaphosa urges Commonwealth to play active role in reforming international institutions – SABC News

President Cyril Ramaphosa says the Commonwealth must play an active role in reforming international institutions to support developing economies.

Ramaphosa addressed the lawmakers of both houses of the British Parliament.

He is on a two-day state visit hosted by King Charles. The visit was the first state visit by the King since his ascension to the British throne.

Ramaphosa says Britain can make a significant contribution.

β€œWe hope that the UK will raise its voice in favor of more representatives and more inclusive international bodies, including the UN Security Council and global financial institutions. These bodies need to be better equipped to respond to the needs of developing economies. Our membership of the Commonwealth gives us a body that can play an important role in developing relevant and innovative responses.”
