EXPLANATION: Violence facing women in South Africa – SABC News

From November 25 to December 10, South Africa is holding 16 days of activism to prevent violence against women and children.

In South Africa, women continue to be abused, assaulted and murdered at an alarmingly high rate. Many of these women were killed by people they know and care deeply about.

The “16 days” campaign draws attention to the problems of femicide and gender-based violence against children and women. Violence against women, girls, children, people with disabilities, older women, members of the LGBTQIA+ community and sex workers has increased over time in South Africa. Every person in society is obliged to contribute to the fight against GBV.
