Political analyst Sandile Swana says the absence of African National Congress deputy president David Mabuza’s name from the party’s list of candidates means he is in the wilderness as he has failed to garner enough nominations in the party’s presidential race.

On Tuesday, the ANC announced the names of those nominated for the first six positions. The election will be held during the party’s 55th Republican Conference in December.

Incumbent ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa and NEC member Dr. Zweli Mkhize have been nominated for the position of ANC President.

Tswana says Mabuza not being nominated in the ANC’s top six will only lead to problems.

“I think Mazuba is in trouble, it was his last minute behavior that cost Nkasazana Dlamini Zuma, the last minute loss at Nasrek, otherwise it was in the pocket. It appears that Ramaphosa never trusted him to use him and the NDZ faction has no time for him and now he is in the wilderness.”

ANC leaders nominated for six top posts have been vetted: Motlanthe

Incumbent Cyril Ramaphosa and NEC member Zweli Mkhize have been nominated to lead the ANC.

Paul Mashatile, Ronald Lamola and Oscar Mabuyane were nominated for the position of Deputy President.

Branches nominated Namvula Makanyane and Phoebe Potgieter as Deputy General Secretaries.

Speaking to the media in Johannesburg on Tuesday, Motlanthe said all candidates had accepted their nominations ahead of the ANC’s 55th National Conference next month.

“The names that were successfully nominated and verified and when the Election Commission asked each of them whether they accept the nomination or not, they all confirmed that they accept the nomination. And as you know, the rules allow for a vetting process.”

The fight for the position of ANC president will be held in two races:
