British Foreign Secretary promises to continue winter support for visit to Ukraine – SABC News

British Foreign Secretary James Cleverley will pledge millions of pounds to further support Kiev during a visit to Ukraine to provide the country with the practical help it needs over the winter, his office said.

Cleverley, who will meet with President Vladimir Zelensky and Foreign Minister Dmitriy Kuleba during the trip, also condemned Russia for its “brutal attacks” on civilians, hospitals and energy infrastructure.

A statement from his office released early Friday said Cleverly visited Ukraine, which this week suffered the most devastating Russian airstrikes on its energy infrastructure in the months-long war.

“Britain stands shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine,” Cleverley said, allocating £3 million to help rebuild vital infrastructure and a further £5 million to Ukraine’s initiative to send grain to countries at risk of famine.

“I have seen first-hand here how the UK’s efforts are helping brave citizens resist and rebuild. Our support will continue as long as it takes to rebuild this great country,” he added.

Cleverley’s trip to the European country came just days after new Prime Minister Rishi Sunak made his first visit to Kyiv, during which he pledged to continue Britain’s strong support for Ukraine under his predecessors.
