A SAPS trainee has died in what appears to be a freak shooting.

Police and the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) have launched an investigation following the death of a trainee officer at the Limpopo SAPS Operational Tactical Camp last weekend.
According to News24, the trainer, Sgt., was demonstrating a firearm to a group of trainees on Sunday morning when a shot rang out.
One of the trainees was hit and died.

Police spokesperson Colonel Atlenda Mate said the deceased’s loved ones were being counseled by the SAPS Health and Welfare Unit.
She informed that the staff of the Academy will be helped by psychologists of the service.
National Commissioner General Fani Masemola sent her condolences to the intern’s family.
