Acting ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa and NEC member Zweli Mkhize have been nominated for the ANC presidency at the 55th National Conference next month.

Ramaphosa received a total of 2 037 to Mkhize’s 916. ANC electoral committee chairman Kgalema Motlanthe made the announcement at the party’s headquarters in Johannesburg this afternoon.

He, however, says that the names are not final, as the conference will open nominations on the spot. So far, Motlante has only named the names of those who will be elected to the six top management positions.

“The first name is that of President Cyril Ramaphosa, the second is that of Dr. Zwelini Mkhize. I will not give you calculations by province. Remember, the requirement is that you must be nominated by at least one province.’

Motlanthe also announced three candidacies for the post of ANC Deputy President.

“For Comrade Paul Mashatile the total is 1,791. And for the next name Ronald Lamola the total is 427 and for Comrade Oscar Mabuyane the total is 397.”
