JOHANNESBURG – A patient has been killed in an ambulance following a mob attack in Attridgeville, Pretoria.
Gauteng Health said members of the community in the Mshongoville informal settlement also attacked emergency workers who were treating the patient on Monday night.
The department said paramedics were treating a man who had been attacked by an angry mob after accusing him of committing a crime.
The department said in a statement that as paramedics tried to take the patient to the nearest hospital, the group began pelting the ambulance with stones.
The group continued to attack the man while he was on a stretcher, killing him.
Gauteng health spokesperson Motolatale Modiba said: “The two ambulance workers who were attacked have gone to hospital for medical observation and will be attending counseling as part of the staff health and welfare programme.”
