A Free State Central University of Technology student has died from injuries sustained during the robbery.

The 23-year-old student was with a friend, a student at the University of the Free State, when they encountered the suspects while walking from a local shop on the corner of John Knox and Calvin streets on Saturday night.

Police spokesman Lt. Col. Thabo Cowan said the suspects were driving an older model white Mercedes-Benz.

Two men from a car attacked the students and stole a laptop and a toiletry bag from one of them.

It was seen that the second student was lying motionless in the middle of the street. He was bleeding from a wound on the back of his head, Cowane said.

The attackers got into a car and fled the scene.

The student was pronounced dead at the hospital. The police are investigating a case of robbery and murder.
