After the death of Queen Elizabeth, her eldest son Charles III ascended the throne.

The new king will take over all the responsibilities of his late mother, and he and his wife Camilla, the Queen Consort, will also take over the Queen’s residence at Buckingham Palace. According to the Mail on Sunday, the king plans to reduce the residence from 52 rooms in the palace to one apartment for himself and Camilla.

While King Charles and Camilla will keep many other residences together, The Telegraph reported that the Queen Consort will also keep one private residence that she owns on her own.

Camilla bought her private home, Rae Mill House, in Wiltshire, England, after divorcing Andrew Parker Bowles in the mid-1990s, according to the Express.

The outlet also notes that the home is a 15-minute drive from Highgrove House, King Charles’ Gloucestershire residence.

An unnamed friend of Camilla told The Telegraph that she would keep Ray Mills’ home because “it’s an escape from royal life”.

“Given that Highgrove is the quietest of the royal residences, even there you’re always surrounded by a team of private staff, including a chef, butler and police, at every corner, so there’s no real personal time,” the same friend told The Telegraph. .

“The King has grown up with this all his life, so it’s not such a burden for him to exist in this watched world, but the Queen Consort has spent most of her life as a private citizen – so she understands the meaning of closing your front door and making a place for yourself.” added the same friend.

In addition to serving as a place of respite, Ray Mill House may also provide the Queen Consort with a sense of security, according to The Telegraph.

Because she owns the Ray Mill home, Camilla would be able to move into the home if the King predeceased her, and she would be able to bequeath the property to her own children, Laura Lopez and Tom Parker Bowles.

Camilla has already spent time at the estate alone since the Queen’s death, according to Hello! Magazine.
