The World Health Organization plans to rename monkeypox to “MPOX” in an attempt to destigmatize the virus that took hold in the United States earlier this year, Politico reported Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The decision, which could be announced as early as Wednesday, is in response to growing pressure from senior Biden officials, who have privately urged WHO leaders to change the name, Politico added.
