Anne Hech’s son has paid tribute to his late mother, saying the family had lost a “kind and joyful soul, a loving mother and loyal friend”.
Heche died after her life support was turned off on Friday night, August 12. The 53-year-old actress had been officially declared brain dead just hours earlier at the Grossman Burn Center at West Hills Hospital and Medical Center. Hechie was in a coma with damaged lungs and severe burns after she crashed her car into a two-story home in the Mar Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles exactly one week ago on Friday, August 5.

Ann Hech’s 20-year-old son, Homer Lafune, 20, wrote in a statement: “My brother Atlas and I lost our mom. After six days of almost unbelievable emotional ups and downs, I was left with a deep, wordless sadness. I hope my mom is freed from her pain and has begun to explore what I like to imagine as her eternal freedom.’
Heche also has a 13-year-old son, Atlas Heche Tapper.
In an earlier statement Thursday night, the family said she had chosen to donate her organs “a long time ago.”
“Anne will be greatly missed, but she lives on thanks to her beautiful sons, her iconic work and her passionate advocacy. Her bravery for always standing up for her truth while spreading a message of love and acceptance will continue to have a lasting impact.”
