Ford has warned car rental companies and other owners of Ford Expeditions and Lincoln Navigators 2021 in the U.S. to park their cars on the street because of the risk of fire.

The automaker confirmed 16 fires, mostly in cars that were unattended. Fourteen of these fires occurred in rented cars.

“Until further notice, the owners of these damaged vehicles should not park them inside – they should only stand outside and away from houses and other structures. The fires occurred in vehicles that were parked and turned off, ”a statement issued via NHTSA said.

“More than 39,000 vehicles have been affected, and there is currently no known cause or method of elimination.”

A similar warning was issued a few months ago for the Chevrolet Bolt EV after a series of battery fires.

Ford said the affected cars were built between December 1, 2020 and April 30, 2021, and “investigations are ongoing.”
