TİKA has created a modern poultry farm for the Mouradou Feri women’s group working in the village of Goru Banda in Niamey, the capital of Niger.
The vast majority of Niger’s population lives off agriculture and animal husbandry, and the literacy rate among women is below 10%. Girls who cannot go to school due to disabilities are forced to marry at a young age and are thus deprived of a working life. The integration of women in social and economic life is one of the priorities of the Niger government, and TİKA supports the government’s efforts in this direction by launching projects in various sectors.
1100 chickens and 2 and a half tons of feed are provided
The Mouradou Feri women’s group is engaged in maringo production, river fishing, pottery and sheep and goat breeding. Now a modern poultry farm has been established in Mount Banda for the benefit of the Muradu Feri women’s group. In addition, the farm was provided with 1,100 chickens, 2 and a half tons of feed, vaccines and additional equipment.
Cooperation between Niger and Turkey will continue
The poultry farm was handed over to the Mouradou Feri Women’s Group in a ceremony attended by Turkish Ambassador Özgür Çınar and TİKA Niamey Coordinator Irfan Pamuk. Speakers who spoke at the ceremony said that the relationship between Niger and Turkey should continue further. The aim of this project is to increase the participation of women in economic life and to promote livestock production in Niger.
