DURBAN – Three more alleged instigators of the July riots are set to make their first court appearance on Monday.

The Hawks detained 22 suspects last week.

One was released on caution while the other 21 appeared in the Durban Magistrates Court on Friday, where they were granted bail of R3000 each, with each subject to various conditions, including a social media ban.

Three more suspects were arrested over the weekend.

Hawks spokesman Brigadier Thandi Mbambo said the latest arrests took place late Friday and Saturday.

“The three were arrested simultaneously in KZN and the North West and will appear in the Durban Central Magistrate’s Court on Monday,” Mbambo said.

The 22 suspects arrested last week have been charged with conspiracy to commit violence in a public place, incitement to commit violence in a public place and incitement to commit arson.

After Monday’s trial, they are likely to join their co-accused in their next court appearance later this month.
