The first snow may fall in the Western Cape, as the weather will be cold and humid in the province on Wednesday and Thursday.

On Wednesday and Thursday, residents of the Western Cape could see the first snow in the province this season, when the weather is cold and humid.

According to the South African Meteorological Service (SAWS), cold and humid weather will reach Western Cape when a cold front emerges on land on Wednesday afternoon.

It is expected to bring rains to the western and southern parts of the province, SAWS forecaster Lutanda Massimini said.

Wet conditions persist and Thursday throughout the day will be showers and thunderstorms in the province. Masimini said that may be about 20 mm of rainfall, while the latest forecast rainfall was not available at time of publication.

On Thursday and Friday temperatures in Cape Town will fluctuate around 15-16 degrees Celsius. On Friday, George is expected to drop to 14 degrees Celsius.

“As of Thursday, there may be areas of snow in the central and eastern parts of the Western Cape,” Massimini added.

The expected level of snowfall at the time of publication was not.

Cold weather from Thursday will move towards the Eastern Cape and further inland, and from Friday on the Eastern Cape will be precipitation and snow, Massimini added.
