CAPE TOWN – The case against a man accused of killing an 8-year-old girl in the Ellis River has once again been adjourned.

The accused briefly appeared in the Western Cape High Court on Monday morning.

The man is accused of kidnapping and killing Tazne van Wieck in 2020.

Hopefully the trial of her alleged killer will resume on Wednesday.

The adjournment will allow the new legal representative of the accused to consult with him.

The trial was due to begin in May last year, but it was postponed, apparently to give the court time to close the backlog.

The eight-year-old girl was last seen alive walking to a store near her Connaught Estate home in February 2020.

The accused was arrested in Craddock in the Eastern Cape more than a week later.

He led police to the body of a child in a downpour along N1 Highway near Worcester.
