A 30-year-old Free State man has been arrested for the murder of his ex-girlfriend and her teenage son, allegedly after he took a guy for her lover.

He allegedly stabbed his 34-year-old mother, an ex-girlfriend, and hit her son on the head with a hammer.

At about 3:55 a.m. Saturday, the man went to the ex-girlfriend, police spokesman Captain Maleb Hassan said.

She said he broke down the door by removing the side glass panel to enter the house.

He suspected the ex-girlfriend was sleeping with her current boyfriend.

According to Hosan, the ex-girlfriend and her son were sitting in bed, and the man thought the child was her boyfriend.

“When his ex-girlfriend came home, he stabbed her to death and hit her son in the head with a hammer.”

According to Hosan, the relationship between the man and the woman was almost four years old and ended three months ago.

She added that the man was aware that the woman had a teenage son.

He said the investigator, Constable Masilo Mareki, had been informed of the man’s whereabouts “and managed to secure an arrest at the Lucas Tscheke section in Ramoulot, Villonskrun”.

The man has been charged with murder and is expected to appear before the Magistrates’ Court in Villonskrun on Wednesday.
