Ex Sharks freely forward Jacques Vermeilen was unable to return to England to play for his club Heads of Exeter after his passport was stolen in a carjacking in Cape Town.

According to the report of Art TelegraphVermeilen specifically returned to Mzansi to renew his passport to continue playing in England.

However, he left the documents in his car, which was stolen, and has since been unable to return to Exeter and subsequently missed the first round of the Guinness Premiership.

The report added that Exeter were working to secure an emergency visa for Vermeilen.

Jacques Vermeulen left the Sharks in 2019

Vermeulen, 27, joined Exeter from the Sharks in 2019 and helped the club win the 2020 European Cup.

A former Springbok Junior, Vermeulen endured a difficult 2021/22 season when a hamstring injury ruled him out for 10 months.
