In the Specialized Court for Commercial Crimes, a former lawyer from Mabopan, Gauteng, pleaded guilty to six counts of theft of more than 1 million rupees.

Collen Butiki Rihlamfu of Rihlamfu’s lawyers confessed to stealing more than 1 million rupees from six customers in 2018.

According to the spokesperson of the National Prosecutor’s Office (NPA) Gautenga Lumka Mahanjani, complaints against the 48-year-old man were filed between June and August 2018.

On March 7, 2018, the former lawyer was removed from the list in Gauteng for unethical practices.

However, he continued to deceive more customers in Pretoria.

“Between June and August 2018, he continued to deceive six different complainants in and around Pretoria, posing as a carrier and a practicing lawyer,” Mahanjana said.

Customers claimed to have deposited money into Richlamp’s bank account in hopes that he would help with the purchase of their homes.

He put the money in his pocket under the guise of assistance in law enforcement and translation.

He pleaded guilty to all charges against him and will be sentenced on June 8, 2022.
