CAPE TOWN – The defense in Senzo Meyiwa’s trial said the soccer star was killed by Longwe Twala because of a love triangle.
However, Senzo’s close friend, Thumela Madlala, who was under cross-examination in the Pretoria High Court, rejected the claims.
Madlala is one of six people present at Meyiwa’s murder.
The former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper was shot to death at the home of his girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo, in October 2014 in what the state believes was a botched robbery.

Earlier, lawyer TT Thobane told the court that he would present a witness who claimed Meyiwa was having an affair with Kelly’s sister, Zandi Khumalo.
Zandi was dating Twala at the time.
Thobane said this was behind the altercation he said led to Meyiwa’s murder.
“I told you Longwe came to the house upset … and I told you that’s when the gun went off,” Thoban said.
But Tumelo vehemently resisted this: “This is a lie; it is what was invented.’
Thobane said his witness would testify that after he shot Meyiwa, Twala jumped over a fence and hid under a neighbor’s car.
