Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said he remains confident that the Reds will be able to beat Manchester City to the Premier League and retain hopes for the historic four.
City increased the lead at the top of the table to three points and also increased the goal difference to four better than Liverpool, defeating Newcastle 5-0 on Sunday.
The Reds stumbled the day before, when they played 1: 1 at home against Tottenham.
However, Klopp shrugged his suggestions that he should now focus on conserving the energy of his players to meet Chelsea in the FA Cup final on Saturday and the Champions League final against Real Madrid on 28 May.
“While it’s no longer available, why should we stop believing? This is what we are doing, ”Klopp said at his pre-match press conference before his trip to Aston Villa on Tuesday.
“It is clear that it is not over, no matter what happens, because we both need to play three games. And it really worries me: how can we win our games?
“In an ideal world you win all the games and are always in a great mood. Many times we have to react to failures, and that is what we have to do. ”
City boss Pep Guardiola has said he feels the whole of England is behind Liverpool’s bid for the title.
Speaking shortly after the victory over Newcastle, Guardiola said: “Everyone in this country supports Liverpool, the media and everyone.”
However, Klopp said he does not feel this with the hostile environment of his side face on the road.
“I have no idea whether the whole country supports us,” Klopp added. “I don’t feel when we go elsewhere and play there, in fact the opposite, but maybe he knows more about it than I do.”
Liverpool will definitely find a supporter in the coach of the next confrontation.
Steven Gerrard has never lifted the league title as captain at Anfield, but is revered as one of the greatest players in club history and is considered a potential successor to Klopp.
Villa secured security by winning Burnley 3-1 over the weekend, but Gerard said he has no shared loyalty to his old club.
My job is to win games for Aston Villa, it will always be so when I represent the club. I want to win hard, and tomorrow is no different, – said Gerard.
Liverpool were defeated 7-2 during their last visit to Villa Park in October 2020.
But Gerard believes he is now facing the best team in world football.
“Liverpool is a world-class team. Probably the best team in the world now, ”he added.
“We are well aware of the scale of the challenge, but it is interesting and I am looking forward to it. It’s all about big football matches. “
