The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, strongly condemns the continuation of Israeli airstrikes on Gaza, which have killed more than 30 Palestinian civilians, including 6 children.
The chairman reiterates that the attacks on civilians and the continued illegal occupation of the occupied territories by the Israeli security forces are a gross violation of international law and complicate the search for a just and lasting solution.
The Chairperson reaffirms the African Union’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people in their legitimate pursuit of an independent and sovereign state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Chairperson also calls for the urgent need to renew and genuine international efforts to find a just and lasting solution based on the right to existence of two states, Israel and Palestine, within the framework of the relevant existing commitments of the African Union and the United Nations.
