JOHANNESBURG – The situation in Gaza remains tense following an escalation of violence over the past few days.

The South African Jewish Board of Deputies (SAJBD) has criticized the Department of International Relations for being quick to condemn Israel for the latest violence but remaining silent on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine six months later with thousands dead.

The department issued a statement condemning Israeli attacks on Gaza, which it said had killed 10 people, including a five-year-old child.

Israel destroyed a number of targets, while rockets were fired at Israel from Gaza.

The agency said that the international community is obliged to ensure that international law is not violated.

However, in response, the Jewish Council of Deputies of the SA did not agree.

Organization professor Karen Milner: “Only the Jewish state is condemned for doing what every other country in the world, including South Africa, should be doing to protect its citizens. ?”
