The Institute for Drug Free Sports (SAIDS) imposed a series of sanctions against South African athletes in several sports.

REPORT | SA SCHOOL PLAYERS TEST POSITIVE FOR PROHIBITED SUBSTANCES

Sports were the most affected bodybuildingwhich was responsible for 10 of the 15 bans.

The SAIDS sanctions listed below were in effect from December 2021 to February 2022.

  • Three (3) year ban from all sports on Athletics South Africa (ASA) athlete Galaletsang Ramorwa after violating anti-doping rules. Mr. Ramorwa tested positive for the presence of stanozolol and its metabolites. The period of his disqualification began on 11 January 2022 (from the date of notification) and will continue until 11 inclusivethousand January 2025
  • Eighteen (18) month ban from all sports on South African Wrestling Federation (SAWF) athlete, Martin Erasmus after an anti-doping rule violation. Mr. Erasmus failed to report his whereabouts three times in a 12-month period, despite numerous reminders. The term of his disqualification began in 19 yearsthousand October 2021 (from the date of adoption of the optional temporary suspension) and will be in effect until April 19, 2023 inclusive.
  • 16 month ban from all sports on SA Powerlifting Federation (SAPF) athlete, Johan Smith after an anti-doping rule violation. Mr. Smith tested positive for presence of anastrozole. His disqualification period began on the 18ththousand May 2021 (from the date of adoption of the optional temporary suspension) and will be valid until and including the 18thousand September 2022
  • 12 month ban from all sports on SA Powerlifting Federation (SAPF) athlete, Rulf Smith after an anti-doping rule violation. Mr. Smith tested positive for presence of anastrozole. His disqualification period began on the 18ththousand May 2021 (from the date of adoption of the optional temporary suspension) and will be valid until and including the 18thousand May 2022
  • Three (3) month suspension from all sports on Basketball SA athlete, Tabisa Kekana after an anti-doping rule violation. Mr. Kekan’s test came back positive the presence of Carboxy-THC (commonly known as Marijuana / Dagga). The period of his disqualification began on February 3, 2022 (from the date of admission) and will continue until May 3, 2022 inclusive.
  • A four (4) year ban from all sports on International Bodybuilding Federation of South Africa (IFBBSA) athlete, Sandile Nkosiafter an anti-doping rule violation. Mr Nkosi tested positive the presence of furosemide, stanozolol, nandrolone, trenbolone, clenbuterol, drostanolone. The period of his postponement began on the 8ththousand December 2021 (the date he was notified of his temporary suspension) and will work until and including 8thousand December 2025
  • A four (4) year ban from all sports on International Bodybuilding Federation of South Africa (IFBBSA) athlete, Masibulele Mangsilaafter an anti-doping rule violation. Mr. Mangxila tested positive for availability stanozolol. His suspension period began on the 29ththousand November 2021 (the date he was notified of his temporary suspension) and will work up to and including the 29thousand November 2025
  • A four (4) year ban from all sports on International Bodybuilding Federation of South Africa (IFBBSA) athlete, Menda Magwakaafter an anti-doping rule violation. Mr. Magwaca tested positive for availability clenbuterol. His suspension period began on the 29ththousand November 2021 (the date he was notified of his temporary suspension) and will work up to and including the 29thousand November 2025
  • A four (4) year ban from all sports on International Bodybuilding Federation of South Africa (IFBBSA) athlete, Barnabas Mzivoksalaafter an anti-doping rule violation. Mr Mziwoxolo tested positive for availability Drostanolone and Oxandrolone. His disqualification period began on the 2ndy December 2021 (the date he was notified of his temporary suspension) and will work up to and including 2y December 2025
  • A four (4) year ban from all sports on International Bodybuilding Federation of South Africa (IFBBSA) athlete, Ernest Mahlanguafter an anti-doping rule violation. Mr Mahlangu tested positive availability canrenone; anastrozole; Oxandrolone, Drostanolone, Stanozolol, Testosterone, Trenbolone, Mesterolone, Methasterone, Methandionone, Tamoxifen and Salbutamol. His disqualification period began on the 2ndyDecember 2021 (the date he was notified of his temporary suspension) and will work up to and including 2yDecember 2025
  • A four (4) year ban from all sports on International Bodybuilding Federation of South Africa (IFBBSA) athlete, Michael van Niekerkafter an anti-doping rule violation. Mr van Niekerk tested positive for availability Methamphetamine, amphetamine, anastrozole, carboxy-THC, 19-norandrosterone, nandrolone, 19-norethicholanolone, trenbolone, drostanolone, oxymetholone, methasterone, and methylphenethylamine. His disqualification period began on the 13ththousand December 2021 (the date he was notified of his temporary suspension) and will work until and including the 13thousand December 2025
  • A four (4) year ban from all sports on International Bodybuilding Federation of South Africa (IFBBSA) athlete, Mark Whelanafter an anti-doping rule violation. Mr. Whelan tested positive for the presence of hydrochlorothiazide, chlorothiazide, triamterene, anastrozole, letrozole, tamoxifen, drostanolone, trenbolone, and stanozolol. His disqualification period began on the 13ththousand December 2021 (the date he was notified of his temporary suspension) and will work until and including the 13thousand December 2025
  • A two (2) year ban from all sports on International Bodybuilding Federation of South Africa (IFBBSA) athlete, David Tshoseafter an anti-doping rule violation. Mr. Tshose tested positive availability Amiloride, Chlorothiazide and Hydrochlorothiazide. His suspension began on the 15ththousandFebruary 2022 (from the date of the decision) and will be valid until and including the 15ththousand February 2024
  • Three (3) year ban from all sports on International Bodybuilding Federation of South Africa (IFBBSA) athlete, Jason Tyler van de Beerafter an anti-doping rule violation. Mr. Van der Berg tested positive for availability Carboxy-THC and Oxandrolone. The period of his postponement began on the 8ththousand December 2021 (the date he was notified of his temporary suspension) and will work until and including the 18thousand December 2024
  • Three (3) year ban from all sports on International Bodybuilding Federation of South Africa (IFBBSA) athlete, Jason Knightafter an anti-doping rule violation. Mr. Knight tested positive availability Anastrozole, Stanozolol, Tamoxifen, Trenbolone, Oxandrolone, Methandriol, Methandienone, and Epimethenediol. His disqualification period began on the 13ththousand December 2021 (the date he was notified of his temporary suspension) and will work until and including the 13thousand December 2024
