Potchefstroom’s Domestic Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses (FCS) unit has appealed to the community to help find three men who can help police investigate three cases of rape.

The first case concerns the rape of an 18-year-old boy in Ikagengu on April 16 of this year.

SAPS spokesperson, Captain Aafie Bothma, said: “At about 3am, the 18-year-old victim was allegedly sleeping in her home on Sibusisa Street, Ikageng, when a man who broke down the door overpowered her. She was raped at knifepoint.”

The police have an identity card of a man who is believed to be between 39 and 40 years old.

“He has a dark complexion, dark eyes, and he’s tall and thin,” Bothma said.

The second incident is related to the assault and rape of a 24-year-old woman in the same township in July 2022.

“Around 4 a.m., a 24-year-old woman was allegedly offered a ride by a man driving a silver-gray Suzuki. “A man allegedly attacked and raped a woman in his car near a church in Sarafina Extension, Ikageng,” she said.

The police identification shows a man, believed to be between 32 and 36 years old.

“He has a dark complexion, [has] dark eyes, medium height and thin build,” Bothma said.

On August 5, 2022, around 2:15 a.m., a 20-year-old woman was driving home with friends in a Volkswagen Polo when they stopped at a tavern in Potchefstroom.

“The victim reportedly went to the toilet. The suspect approached her and raped her,” she said.

Police believe the suspect in this third case is in his 30s.

Bottma said the suspect has dark eyes and hair, and was tall and of a stocky build.

She urged anyone with information about the men’s identities to contact Detective Constable Nathaniel Lefoy on 082 568 9036 or 082 568 9028 or call the South African Police Service (SAPS) on 08600 10111.

“Anonymous messages can also be sent via the MySAPS app from your smartphone. Callers can remain anonymous,” she said. – SAnews.gov.za
