Gauteng police are still looking for two suspects following a shooting in Midrand, north of Johannesburg, on Tuesday afternoon that left a 9-year-old boy dead.

His mother is in critical condition. The mother had reportedly just picked up her children from school when two men approached and shot them.

The two suspects then jumped into a car parked nearby and sped off.

A criminal case has been opened for murder and attempted murder.

Gauteng Police Spokesperson, Mavela Masondo, says: “Police have mobilized maximum resources to track down the suspects following a shooting incident in Midrand where a boy died from his injuries. The son died from his injuries, the mother is in critical condition. A thirteen-year-old girl was not injured. A motive for the shooting cannot be confirmed at this stage. A case of murder and attempted murder has been opened.”
