Police are looking for two suspects after a woman and her two children were shot dead in Midrand, north of Johannesburg. A 41-year-old mother and her nine-year-old son were hospitalized with gunshot wounds.

The son died from his injuries, the mother is in critical condition. A thirteen-year-old girl was not injured.

Police spokesman Mavela Masondo says the motive for the shooting is still unknown.

“It is reported that the mother had just picked up her children from school when two men approached them and shot at them. The two suspects then jumped into a car parked nearby and sped off. A criminal case of murder and attempted murder has been opened. Police are appealing to anyone who may have information that could assist in the investigation or apprehension of the suspects to call their nearest police station or on 08600 10111.”
