Sergio Perez has expressed that he is not concerned about his future with Red Bull despite his recent qualifying setback. The Mexican driver’s session ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix ended abruptly when he crashed into the wall at Turn 8 during the Q1 segment. This incident marks the second consecutive weekend in which Perez has failed to complete a qualifying session, and he has had only one Q3 appearance in the last seven races.
Perez’s crash in Hungary comes amid mounting speculation about his future at Red Bull. The team has openly indicated that they expect improved performances from him, especially as they face increased competition from rival teams in the championship standings.
When questioned by RacingNews365 about whether he is worried about his position at Red Bull, Perez remained steadfast. “No, nothing changes. I’m not worried. I’m fully determined to turn my season around and focus on my performance,” he stated confidently.
The crash occurred under challenging conditions, with intermittent rainfall making the Hungaroring circuit particularly slippery during Q1. Reflecting on the incident, Perez admitted the difficulty in judging the track conditions. “It was raining hard but you weren’t losing grip; I was improving my lap,” he explained. “In hindsight, when we look at it, we were safe. We didn’t need to push for that lap, but you always know a lot after the fact.”
Perez expressed his regret over the incident, acknowledging the impact on his team. “It hurts that it happened again, especially given the tough period I’m going through,” he said. “I’m very sorry for letting my team down. It’s painful as a driver to feel like you’ve disappointed your team.”
Despite the setback, Perez remains resolute. “I will not give up,” he asserted. “I will give my very best to turn the situation around and push as hard as I can to help secure a strong finish for the team in the constructors’ championship.”
