Soneva, a resort in the Maldives, is looking for a “barefoot bookseller” to stay at one of their villas for free. A typical luxury villa stay costs $36,500 (about 607,106 rand) per night. The resort is located on the private island of Kunfunadu, known for its pristine sandy beaches and unique marine life.

The role involves overseeing the pop-up bookstore as well as managing several social media pages. Applicants sending their resumes should have a broad knowledge of English literature and be able to write and speak English.

The “happy” bookseller will also need to write monthly blog posts, weekly newsletters and interact with visitors of all ages.

As described in the job listing, previous “bookselling/publishing experience is essential.” In addition, the chosen “barefoot bookseller” will conduct classes in creative writing, bibliotherapy and educate children from 9 to 18 years old.

According to Aimee Johnson, the previous “barefoot bookseller” in 2019, the job was a dream.

“Being a barefoot bookseller was an absolute dream. I got to meet amazing people, work with incredible books and live on a beautiful luxury island. A dream job!”

Soneva is a sustainable resort group that prides itself on “inspiring a lifetime of rare experiences”. It is also billed as “the first luxury barefoot resort”.
