One of South Africa’s top activists (OSA), Mmusi Maiman, and residents of Prieska in the Northern Cape held a march against what they call the illegal seizure of power by the African National Congress in the local municipality of Siathemba.

The Community Movement of Siathemba (SCM), an independent non-governmental organization affiliated with the OSA, received 40% of the vote in the 2021 local elections.

SCM accuses the ANC of stealing power from the people after its adviser was allegedly barred from attending council meetings.

Chief activist Mmusi Maiman says they are against the “seizure of the municipality”.

“Today we are in the Prieska community to really fight against the seizure of the municipality. South Africans have suffered for a long time without services. In the local elections, the Prieska community voted for change. And so today we have to ensure that the ANC does not seize the municipality, stop money laundering programs and ultimately ensure that the residents of Prieska get the services they deserve. ”
