JOHANNESBURG – 21 suspects linked to last year’s July riots have been released on bail of R3,000 each.
The group was arrested by the Hawks on Thursday in various parts of the country, including Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape provinces.
They all made their first appearance in the Durban Central Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
The 22nd accused was released on recognizance, no bail was paid.
The state did not oppose bail and said more arrests were expected.
The suspects are accused of inciting communal violence that led to widespread looting in parts of KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng provinces last July. #JulyUnrest
