North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has mobilized the military to help stabilize drug supplies as the country struggles with a severe wave of coronavirus cases. More than a million people are now infected with fever in Pyongyang.

The country announced the first confirmed cases of COVID-19 last week, although experts believe the virus is likely to be circulating for some time.

The coronavirus is spreading rapidly throughout the country, where there are no vaccines, treatments and established immunity to the virus.

At an emergency meeting on Monday, Kim reportedly said the drugs were not reaching pharmacies and people fast enough, and the consequences looked dire. Health experts say it is unlikely that the North has the antiviral drugs needed to treat its people.
