A man on probation for rape is back behind bars after he allegedly robbed a Takealot delivery driver in Pretoria in August.

Nkosana Makhubo, 33, appeared in the Atteridgeville Magistrates Court on Wednesday where he asked to be released on bail of 1000 rand on the grounds of his ill health.

“However, the state opposed his bail application and told the court that Makhubo was… on probation after he was sentenced to seven years in prison for rape. So he is likely to commit another crime [if he was] released on bail,” said National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokeswoman Lumka Mohanjana.

His bail application was rejected.

He is due back in court on October 12, 2022.

According to Mahajana, the delivery driver was on his way to Lotus Gardens in Pretoria after delivering the food.

A group of men in two cars suddenly blocked his motorcycle.

“Three men stole his money, bank cards and two mobile phones, threatening him with a knife and a firearm,” added Mohanjana.

Makhubo was arrested days later when the driver pointed him out to the police and charged with aggravated robbery.
