The Marrakesh meeting is another step in the pursuit of international commitment and coordination in the fight against ISIS, with a special focus on the African continent, as well as the evolution of the terrorist threat in the Middle East and other regions.

During the meeting, coalition ministers will consider actions taken to stabilize efforts in areas previously affected by the ISIS, in the field of strategic communication against propaganda of radicalization of this terrorist group and its affiliates, as well as the fight against foreign terrorist militants.

Just a few months ago, the coalition announced the creation of a focus group on Africa. This important step should be continued at the Marrakesh meeting with additional guidance and concrete responses to the rise of terrorism in Africa.

As the host country of this meeting and as co-chair of the African Focus Group under the Coalition, the meeting reaffirms Morocco’s leading role at the regional and international levels in the fight against terrorism and the promotion of peace, security and stability in Africa.

It is also a strong testament to the Coalition for Morocco as a trusted partner and provider of regional peace and security, co-chairing the World Counter-Terrorism Forum for three consecutive terms, hosted by the United Nations Office against Terrorism and training in Africa, which was a country of the continent, organized in June 2018 a meeting of political directors of the World Coalition against ISIS, dedicated to the terrorist threat in Africa.

This once again demonstrates the trust and respect enjoyed by Morocco’s unique approach under the enlightened leadership of King Mohammed VI in the fight against terrorism, as well as in defending the interests of the African continent through multilateral platforms. .

The Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS was formed in September 2014 to combat the IS terrorist group in accordance with an interdisciplinary, inclusive and holistic approach between countries and regional institutions seeking to curb the expansionist aspirations of the terrorist group and its terrorists. .

The coalition consists of 84 states and international partner organizations from different regions of the world.
