South Africa youth international Tashreek Matthews could be at a new club in Sweden’s top division by the end of the week.
Reports overseas have linked the 21-year-old striker with a move from Varbergs to their Premier League rivals IK Sirius before the transfer window closes on Thursday – making it a race against time.
This is reported today by Swedish local media [Tuesday] that Matthews has already agreed personal terms, with the move now only dependent on medicals before the player puts pen to paper and begins a new chapter.
Matthews began his career at the now-defunct Ajax Cape Town youth academy four years ago and shortly after breaking into the first team he made one of the most important moves in terms of the Premier League, when he was captured by the giants of the German Bundesliga “Borussia”. Dortmund.
He joined their U19 team and was then loaned out to Utrecht U21s to prepare him to interact with the senior team.
Matthews never got the chance to do so and was sent to Swedish club Helsingborg for another short spell where he was a regular.
When it came time to return to Dortmund, another Swedish team in Varbergs quickly signed him on a permanent transfer, but they are now set to lose him to IK Sirius in just over two years.
A transfer announcement is now imminent.
