Social media is hotly debated as Orlando Pirates fans gloat about their 1-0 win over Maruma Gallants on Wednesday night, believing they will be crowned champions.

The Soweto giants are currently on top of the DStv Premiership table, one point ahead of reigning league champions, Mamelodi Sundowns.

While coach Jose Riveriro’s men took down the plucky Gallants at the Orlando Stadium, the Ghosts are confident of staying on top and eventually dethroning the Brazilians as league title holders.

Pirates scored an early goal from Paseka Mako and some fans are delighted with striker Zakele Lepasa, while reports are also shared of injured duo Thapelo Shoki and Nkasinathi Sibisi clashing on the pitch.

In his post-match assessment, Riveiro was unimpressed, a stark contrast to the 12th man’s feelings.

“We knew Marumo’s ability to keep the ball, keep possession, today we couldn’t, that’s a fact,” Rivero told SuperSport TV.

“We haven’t been able to dominate the game due to possession, it’s a lot of events, a lot of games recently, it’s hard to keep the same level every game.

“It wasn’t possible today, just better defending like we’ve done in the last games, being solid even when they have the ball.”

Aphiwe Phike said:

“We wish Sibisi and Xoki a speedy recovery, we want them through the weekend.”

Sam Fickello wrote:

“Uyindoda Zakhele Lepasa, Orlando Pirates, this poi will bring happiness”

Gkwanini said:

“The top of the log feels comfortable, just needs to add some elements, but we can get used to it.”

Scelo Gumbi said:

“There is only one football club in the PSL!! These are pirates.”

Anga Junior commented:

“Not an easy win, Gallants outplayed us, but like I said, Mako is much better than Hoth. Thanks guys for the win, Lepaso should also start in the next game.”

Looking ahead to the next match, the Buccaneers visit Royal AM for the MTN8 match which is due to take place at Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday night.
