Liverpool will be looking to bounce back from defeat in their UEFA Champions League opener when they take on Ajax Amsterdam at Anfield tonight.
Liverpool suffered a shock 4-1 drubbing against Napoli in their opening game of the competition in Naples last week and will be determined to shake off that rust when they take on Ajax Amsterdam in their Group A clash at home tonight.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp called the meeting with the Italians the worst game for the club since he joined them in 2015.
“I watched the game (against Napoli) many times and it was a real horror show, to be honest. So, we showed the boys and the situation. They knew, but then seeing it again, it’s really obvious, so it was pretty much, it was the worst game we’ve played since I’ve been here and we’ve had some bad games, we all know , which everyone remembers, probably Aston Villa and some others maybe, where we just weren’t up to speed or something. But there were always glimpses of us, even in those games.”
Klopp and his men will have a difficult task as the Dutch have won all seven of their games in all competitions this season.
“We have to show a reaction, of course we know that. It does not guarantee a result against Ajax. I’d say Ajax are pretty much in the opposite situation, having won all their games this season. They’re having a renovation again, a very large renovation, and they’re doing a very good job again.”
Meanwhile, in Group C, Bayern Munich host Barcelona at the Allianz Arena.
Both matches will kick off at 9pm South African time.
