JOHANNESBURG – The KwaZulu-Natal government said on Friday that several flood-affected communities are at risk of a further humanitarian crisis as the province prepares for adverse weather conditions this weekend.

The Department of Cooperative Management has prepared a disaster response team on alert, as dangerous floods could affect already flooded areas.

At least 450 people have been killed in torrential rains that have caused landslides, and flood waters toppled hundreds of homes last month.

Rescue efforts are still ongoing, with more than 80 people missing or missing.

The Department of Cooperative Management said emergency services, including paramedics and rescue teams, which were already overcrowded, would give priority to areas still suffering from flooding last month.
