Oh, mate. It doesn’t matter if we get caught red-handed, if it was us, we’d be redder. A suspected cable thief was caught in the middle of a heist last night and one local surveillance team had the easiest task when it came to turning the fraudster into the Pretoria SAPS.
Crook’s handiwork does not pay off…
The suspect, pardon the pun, was “turned over” on Wednesday evening. He was found on an unknown plot of land, next to the fence of a residential building. When the AfriForum patrol arrived, they observed the male suspect sitting on the ground, defeated and down next to the hatch.
Iron plating proved to be his undoing. It is believed he reached through gaps in the manhole cover to grab some cables but was unable to free his fingers, trapping them inside. This led to a rather comical encounter with the police.
The cable thief was handed over to the police after his hand got stuck
Eventually, officers arrived at the scene and allowed the neighborhood watch members to disperse. The incident at Morelet Park has gone viral on social media – and pictures do the story more justice than our words ever could.
Pretoria cable thief gets a lesson in ‘instant karma’
Somehow keeping a firm face, Jacques Brudrick made a statement to this effect. He is the spokesperson for AfriForum’s public safety department, and he was able to confirm a number of details about the incident. Looks like the SAPS didn’t have to work too hard to get their hands on this criminal…
“Early this morning, AfriForum officers in Moreleta Park, Pretoria assisted in apprehending a cable theft suspect. The suspect’s fingers got stuck under the heavy hatch cover, preventing him from escaping. He was released and handed over to the SAPS.” | Jacques Brudrick
