The mood in South Africa was somber after Zoleka Mandela revealed she had been diagnosed with cancer again.
If you followed Zoleka’s story, you would understand that she spent half her life fighting for her life. She battled breast cancer twice, battled alcohol addiction, and also went through the sad road of drug addiction, but overcame it.

Should we even mention that she was sexually abused as a child and was strong enough to let her scars heal? The mother of six also lost two of her own children, her mother and grandmother. She had to heal from it all because she thought she was picking up the pieces of her life and everything seemed to be going right, the author, who documented her 10-year journey with breast cancer in an autobiography, When Hope whispersfound out that she has bone cancer.
On her Instagram, Nelson Mandela’s daughter revealed that she sought medical help after experiencing pain in her left rib and was told she might have bone cancer and was afraid of waiting for a diagnosis.
“I’ve had back pain for over a month now and recently saw a GP when I couldn’t take the excruciating pain in my left rib any longer. A few days ago I went for an x-ray of my chest and ribs – I have a pathological fracture and swelling caused by cancer,” Mandela wrote on the social media image sharing site.”
She went on to say that her doctor told her that the cancer cannot be removed or cured and she is currently awaiting CAT results. “I don’t even have words to express my thoughts and feelings, words to describe how scared I am right now. What will I tell my children? How do I tell them that this time I might not live my life as a survivor? How do I tell them everything is going to be okay when it isn’t? I’m dying… I don’t want to die.”
